A Little About Me

Hello everyone! My name is John, however, for sake of some internet anonymity, I will be referring to myself and all my publishing’s under the guise of “StonedTurtle.”

To say I am a music nerd is an understatement. Through my years in high school, I always had an earbud in, and I was also a part of our school’s band program, enough to push me to want to pursue a degree in music. I ended up going to the University of Akron for Music and got a Bachelors Degree. Ever since then, all I do is do SOMETHING with music. I have done several years of marching band, was part of multiple classical ensembles, and learned a great deal of music history from multiple parts of the world. This has caused me to gain a great deal of knowledge and understanding of music.

I was never fully a fan of metal music. I grew up listening to Poison, Scorpion, Motley Crue, and essentially “dad rock” all my life thanks to my father. When I was in middle school, I had a friend show me what “metal music” was, and my first artist to throw me into the deep end was “I See Stars.” Ever since then, all that is played out of my speakers is metal and rock.

My Goals and Wants

My goal for starting this blog post is for me to start getting back into music, but also to educate people on metal music and to show that it is not all “screaming and loud sounds.” There are songs that I have heard that have brought me to tears, brought me to headbang so hard that I give myself a headache, and certain songs have the ability to fully switch my mood, and it is never out of anger. Anger is the one emotion that actually goes away for me while listening to harder music (weird, I know, but oopsies).

I want people to start to appreciate all forms of music, and to learn that metal music can actually be “mainstream,” as we see Sleep Token currently doing. They are taking metal music and making mainstream. However, I want more artists to see this limelight, not just a few of them. When people hear metal music, I want them to see 15-20 different artists at any time, and not just the same 3-4.

What To Expect

With this blog, I plan on writing a post once a week, talking about an album that came out the prior week and giving my honest feedback. For now, I am going to just do one album. After I get used to this and get a following, maybe I will start doing 2 posts a week, or I will do a “Best Of” and “Worst Of” for the week. Let me know what I should maybe consider doing in the future! Maybe even branch out to other genres!

Alright, I should stop yammering away and get to do some actual work. I want to recognize and send my appreciation to everyone that takes the time to read my first post! I will be uploading again shortly, I need to start listening to some music!
